Reminders about riding Coast RTA

Here are some reminders to observe these simple rules in riding the bus:

  • No Smoking, No Eating or Drinking, No Littering, and No Tipping
  • Use Headphones If Listening or Playing Personal Devices
  • Speak When Using Cell Phones
  • Passengers MUST Wear Shirts, Shoes, and Pants/Shorts/Skirts
  • Please allow elderly or disabled people to sit in the front seats. Take a seat as soon as you can after paying your fee.
  • Please use seat belts if available and grasp onto the grab rails or seat backs for your safety. On a bus that is moving, do not move about. Wait to get up from your seat until the bus stops.

On routes with designated bus stops marked with signage, Coast RTA drivers will not honor flag stops. If you want to ride the bus, please wait at the specified bus stops and signal the driver. Drivers are kept from the planned paths.

Before boarding the bus, please prepare your fare, including your ticket or fare card. Bus drivers are unable to make a change or carry cash. Riders who qualify for a half-price discount must be prepared to present the driver with their identification card. Otherwise, they will be asked to pay the full fare.

Coast RTA’s Tap to Cap

With the help of Coast RTA's "Tap to Cap" tool, we can adjust our fare collection procedure. As a result, we are simplifying the payment process and allowing our clients to "limit" their daily fares to $3.50.

As part of this initiative, ALL fares are reduced to $1.00. As a result, we will no longer allow transfers on our buses. More crucially, we will no longer be able to process outdated "magstripe" passes.

You will merely "tap" your contactless payment for a "cap" of $3.50 per day each time you board a Coast RTA transport. We will still accept cash fares for a certain period, but they will not be included in the "Tap to Cap" program.

Customers who qualify for discounted fares may continue riding for FREE outside peak hours. The peak hours of the buses are every 6 a.m. - 9 a.m. in the morning and 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. in the afternoon.

You can use your contactless payment system on our cars in the following ways:

  • Use a contactless debit or credit card (such as a Visa, Mastercard, Cash Card, etc.). If your card qualifies, it will display the Wi-Fi icon.
  • Use the smartphone's mobile wallet (Apple Pay, Google, Pay, Cash App, etc.).
